Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to clearly state that Shipping Smile requires that eye protection be worn by all employees who work in areas where there is a risk of injury to eyes due to flying objects, impact, heat, chemicals, dust, or optical radiation hazards. This policy also outlines which types of safety glasses options will be provided and paid for by the company.
Policy
Shipping Smile (formerly Shoquiz) is committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure safety, all employees must wear protective safety glasses when required by OSHA regulations, company policy, or state or federal regulations.
To support our employees, we have coordinated with a state-contracted vendor for prescription safety glasses. Employees will be provided with approved safety glasses at no cost for basic prescription safety glasses. The company will cover the base price of the safety glasses, including tinting, scratch-resistant coatings, and side shields. This also covers enhancements such as bifocals or trifocals.
Safety Glasses Replacements:
Safety glasses will be provided every two years or when a prescription drastically changes. Work-related damage to safety glasses will also be covered by the company.
Upgrades:
Any upgrades or additional features beyond the base safety glasses (e.g., premium coatings or special lenses) will be at the employee’s expense and must be paid for at the time of order.
Purchasing Procedure
Safety glasses shall be purchased through a purchase order processed through the business office, using the state-contracted vendor. The company’s purchasing card shall not be used for the purchase of safety glasses.
Responsibilities
- Supervisors:
Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that employees who require eye protection are wearing the appropriate safety glasses. - Business Managers:
Business Managers should assist employees in completing the necessary paperwork to purchase safety glasses through the state-approved contract and ensure compliance with the policy. - Employees:
Employees must understand the risks of their working environment and wear eye protection whenever required. Employees should work with the business office to purchase required safety glasses.
